What do you want to know?…

So that you can feel reassured about what to expect when coming to us, below are some of the frequently asked questions that arise.  If you do not find the answer to your particular query then please do not hesitate to contact us.

What types of music do you teach?

Everything! We specialise in popular music styles such as Pop, Rock, Musical Theatre, Folk, Blues & Jazz but we will aim to tailor your lessons to the musical styles you’re interested in.

What ages do you teach?

Our students range from 5 years old to 75 years old!

How much does it cost and how do I pay?

Lessons can be paid for in cash, by cheque or by bank transfer (BACS).
Our rates are £17 for 30 minutes, £25.50 for 45 mins and £34 for a 60 mins lesson.

Do you offer any sibling discounts?

Yes we do! Half hour lessons are £16 and hour lessons are £32 for siblings.

Are instruments provided?

We don’t provide instruments for you to take home with you, therefore you will need your own to practise on between lessons.  Guitarists and Bass Guitarists will need to bring their instruments with them to the lesson, however drummers and pianists/keyboard players do not need to bring their own instruments to the lesson (phew!).

What instruments do you teach?

We currently offer tuition for Vocals, Guitar, Piano/Keyboard, Ukulele, Bass Guitar and Drums. We also offer tuition for Music Theory, Music GCSE/A-Level and Recording. Beatbox is constantly growing so we would like to hear from you even if you wish to learn an instrument that isn’t listed on our website as we may still be able to help you or be able to direct you to someone who can.

How much should I spend on an instrument?

Talk to your tutor about buying an instrument for the first time. We are always happy to advise you!

Should I get a high quality instrument from the start even though I’m a beginner?

A difficult question to answer – and the answer is specific and dependent on the individual’s budget and requirements. We are always happy to advise you before you buy.  Usually a high quality second hand instrument is better than buying a ‘brand new’ poor quality one.

How much practice do I need to do?

A minimum of 10mins per day. 15-20mins per day is ideal. Little and often is better than
an hour once a week!

What if you’re left handed?

No problem! We can help you choose the correct guitar or show you how to set up the drums.

Do your students ever have a chance to play together or as a part of a band?

Yes, we regularly organise Rockschool workshops!  We also encourage our students to form their own bands and join other music groups such as orchestras, brass bands, and choirs.

When do you teach?

Contact us to find out when the tutor can fit you in for a lesson.  Generally our lessons take place Monday-Friday between 3-9pm and Saturdays 9am-5pm, but some tutors are able to offer lessons outside of these times .

How much notice should I give if I’m going to miss a lesson? Will I still get charged?

Ideally as much notice as possible as it may give us time to accommodate other students or rearrange your lesson for a different day.  The minimum notice period to avoid being charged is 24hrs.

Can I sit in and observe my child's lessons?

We encourage parents to be involved in their child’s learning and we are happy to discuss the lessons and progress with them each week. We also allocate time every so often to showcase lesson material to parents.  However, having an ‘audience’ (even if it’s a parent or close relative) in a lesson can be distracting for a student.  It is important to feel comfortable about asking questions or making mistakes in your lesson without feeling like you are being watched.  Therefore we have a lovely waiting room where parents can relax and make themselves a drink while the lesson takes place.  Of course, if a student wishes to have their parent observe the lesson then we are happy for them to do so!
